AMSU denounces
IMPHAL, Apr 28 : The All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has strongly opposed the Government's order issued yesterday regarding price revision of essential items in the State.
During a press meet called this afternoon at AMSU Headquarters at DM College campus, its HRD secretary Mani Ningthoujam said that AMSU is against the Government order saying that the order was issued in collusion with some businessmen to give undue advantage to the latter amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
AMSU, on April 22, had appealed to all concerned not to hike price of essential items in the wake of the second wave of the pandemic in the State and a drive to assess the situation at godowns and storage facilities was conducted, he said.
During the drive, items which could feed the State for nearly 3 months, were detected at various godowns, he said while adding that AMSU approached the Commissioner of CAF& PD Department to issue a fair price list in the interest of the common people.
The Commissioner has issued two orders bearing price lists of essential items, first on April 24 and another on April 27 (revised), but in both the orders, there has been unjustified price rice in many of the items. And as such AMSU is against both the orders and it should be retracted and nullified, he demanded.
Urging all traders to sell items based on the price list prior to both the new orders (issued on April 24 and 27), he also appealed Government to look into the matter and issue an all-new order which is fair and acceptable to all.
He also appealed to all concerned to devise a long term plan to avoid such time to time price discrepancies.
