IMPHAL , Apr 23: Floral tributes were paid today to Khongjom War heroes, who valiantly fought against the mighty British in the Anglo-Manipuri War in 1891, at Ningsingkhun, Jiribam district.
Khongjom Day is observed every year on 23rd April to remember the brave sons of Manipur who made supreme sacrifice for the cause of their motherland.
At the programme organised by Pari Puri Athouba Ningshing Lup, Dr S Arun Kumar Singh, chairman Pari Puri Athouba Ningsing Lup led the floral tributes paid to the statue of  Thangal General.
Manipuri Literary & Cultural Forum, Tripura and Paona Brajabashi Foundation, Tripura also jointly organised the Khongjom Day celebration at Paona Brajabashi Park, Gournagar in Tripura.
It was attended by Khowai Jila Parishad Adhyaksha, Joydev Debvarman; Forum president, N Bira Singha; secretary, Khoisnam Mangol; S Khelamohan; Meira Paibi Khowai president, N Binota and social activist, N Madan as presidium members.
Khongjom Day was also observed at Abhoynagar Puthiba Sanglen by Puthiba Welfare & Cultural Society and Paona Brajabashi Foundation Tripura.
It was attended by society chairman, M Indramani; social worker, Longjam Samarendra Arun; Marup newspaper, joint editor, RK Tarunjit and N Niranjan Dutta as presidium members.
Floral tributes were paid to the statue of Paona Brajabashi at Abhoynagar.
Later,  "Puthiba lifetime achievement award 2021' were also conferred to Sapam Naba Kumar, Sinam ongbi Joshna Devi and Longjam Arun.
Likewise, Pangram Meira Paibi and Assam Manipuri Meira Paibi Apunba Lup also celebrated Khongjom Day at Udharbond Pangram and paid floral tributes to the portrait of Paona Brajabashi.
It was attended by AMMPAL, vice president, Probha Rani and other Meira Paibi leaders including Bajyenti Singha, Lakhisana Devi, Chandrasakhi Devi, Bidyapati Singha and Nachingba.
A team led by Manipuri Youths Front of Assam. former president, Seram Herajit; president, Thangjam Brojen Singh and Rajib Singha also paid floral tribute to the portrait of Paona Brajabashi in Pangram.
