Brown sugar factory busted

IMPHAL, Apr 1: A team of Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB) Police Station and Imphal West District Police busted a brown sugar manufacturing factory at Chesam Muslim Mayai Leikai within the jurisdiction of Mayang Imphal Police Station yesterday.
The team which was led by Additional SP of NAB Saklemba Rajkumar and Additional SP of Imphal West Amarjit Singh Lamabam came across the brown sugar factory while conducting a search operation in Chesam Muslim Mayai Leikai yesterday around 11 pm, said a statement of police.
The factory was set up at the residence of Chesam Ayub Ali and his wife Chesam ongbi Maibam Sahera (30 yrs) was arrested since Ayub Ali escaped from the spot.
The team recovered a packet of brown sugar weighing 217 grams, five packets of opium weighing 4.30 kgs and remnants weighing 21.86 kgs, a Honda Activa and a weighing tool along with other items used in extracting brown sugar. A case has been registered for further investigation, added the statement.
