MSFDS, committee condole demise of Em Kay Jeet

IMPHAL, Apr 14 : The Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS) and the Celebration Committee of the Golden Jubilee of Manipuri Cinema have condoled the untimely demise of State Film awardee, Moirangthem Kamaljeet Singh, popular known as Em Kay Jeet on April 12 last at JNIMS.
Born on October 30, 1949 at Pangei's Tangngam village in Imphal East, Em Kay Jeet grew up with a strong passion to work for social upliftment. Later on he channelized his deep feeling for human values and the moorings of a traditional society through his cinema, said MSFDS in a press release. He was also an approved lyricist of All India Radio Imphal, it said.
The late filmmaker started experimenting with cinema as early as 1988 on VHS format making hits films, like 'Ashiba Thawaigi Mami' and 'Mee Hatpa'. In 1997, his Shankar Film Industry collaborated with Bright Films and he produced his first celluloid feature film, 'Kanaga Hinghouni' which highlighted the extreme impact of drug abuse. For this touching social drama, Huirem Seema who played the main protagonist received the Best Actor (female) award and Laimayum Surjakanta Sharma received the Best editing award at the Manipur State Film Award, 1998, MSFDS recalled.
'Meichak Meichak' (1999) depicting eroding humanity values and universal love was his second celluloid production. His third production, 'Aroiba Bidai' (2000-01), directed by Oken Amakcham was themed on corruption and bagged the Best Feature film award at the Manipur State Film Awards, 2001, it said.
After his fourth production, 'Nongju Ahing' which was a super hit at the box-office, EM Kay Jeet had planned to start another production by September 2021 before he was admitted to the hospital on April 12 and instantly passed away.
In EM Kay Jeet's demise, the film community of Manipur has lost a passionate filmmaker who left an enduring mark in the journey of Manipuri Cinema. His absence would be greatly missed, MSFDS said saluting the late man.
