Dy CM inaugurates Kombirei Festival -2021

Imphal, Apr 12 (DIPR): Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar Singh has reiterated that the Government is committed to restore water bodies to conserve rare flora and fauna of Manipur.
He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the ‘Kombirei Festival -2021’ at Epathoukok Comlex, Lamphelpat.
The Deputy Chief Minister also said that restoration of the water body at Lamphelpat  is in the priority list to conserve the natural habitat of ethnic flowers like Kombirei.  
Joykumar Singh further said that Kombirei - the ethnic flower is deeply associated with the cultural folklore of Manipur which needs special care and attention. The flower has a special place in the cultural history of Manipur like in Sajibu Nongmapanba - Cheiraoba.
He also opined that scientific research should be conducted to find out the best  ways for ensuring its (Kombirei) for preservation.
The Deputy Chief Minister assured the gathering that the required funding to conduct scientific research especially for Kombirei will be made.
 He also appealed to the people to cooperate with the Government’s initiatives to conserve the environment in the days to come.
Joykumar Singh also released a half-yearly journal- ‘Likhun’ in the inaugural ceremony of the 2-day festival.
Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) Dr RK Ranjan Singh, while speaking at the function said that the Centre under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is committed for the restoration of wetlands in the country.
Dr Ranjan also stressed the need to conduct scientific research to conserve Kombirei, assuring that he will extend all possible help to approve projects regarding conservation of such rare species whenever pursued by the department concerned.
Kangjam Radhakumar Singh (retd-IAS) also spoke on the importance of conserving Kombirei.
