IMPHAL, Mar 31 : Manipur Thang-Ta players continue to excel in the very own indigenous martial art form as it lifted the title of the 26th National Sub-Junior, Junior and Senior Thang-Ta Championship held here at Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium from March 27 to 30.
The championship organised by Huyel Langlon Thang-Ta Association, Manipur under the supervision of Thang-Ta Federation of India was reportedly participated by 247 male and 175 female athletes from across 19 States of India. In all, 54 officials accompanied the teams.
Manipur, represented by Huyel Langlon Thang-Ta Association, secured 605 points on the back of 102 gold, 25 silver and 10 bronze medals to emerge on top of the tally. Jammu and Kashmir Thang-Ta Association, on the other hand, earned 195 points (17 gold, 20 silver and 25 bronze medals) to bag 1st runners up title as Assam Thang-Ta Association finished second runners up with a total of 191 points (7 gold, 31 silver and 59 bronze medals) in its name.
H Priyobarta Luwang of Manipur earned Manipur a gold medal in the under 25 kg category Phunaba Ama event for sub-junior boys by beating Ratnasimhasanan Jeevan Krishna of Andhra Pradesh in the final. Other sub-junior players winning gold medals for Manipur in the Phunaba Ama event are L Athoiba (-29 kg), Sagar Sunar (-33 kg), Victoraj Ngangom (-37 kg), Th Dienal (-41 kg), Korounganba Longjam (-49 kg), H Ridesh (-53 kg) and Ph Bishorjit (+53 kg).
Rionel Hijam (-25 kg), Lous Ningthoujam (-29 kg), H Yangba Singh (-33 kg), N Rajesh (-37 kg), Th Shriibasha (-45 kg), K Loveson (-49 kg) and S Songyai (-53 kg) in the meantime bagged gold medals for Manipur in the Phunaba Anishuba event.
Sub-junior girls who won gold medal in the Phunaba Ama event for Manipur at this championship are H Bidyalaxmi (-21 kg), N Korounganba (-25 kg), L Daina (-29 kg), Nandita Thiyam (-37 kg), K Melody (-41 kg), Ichanthon Thounaojam (-45 kg), W Kethabi (-49 kg) and Venus Sorokhaibam (+53 kg).
Meanwhile, H Ishwarya (-21 kg), Yaiphabi Heikrujam (-25 kg), Langambi Huidrom (-29 kg), L Nibashini (33 kg), Th Lembisana (-37 kg), Th Monika (-49 kg), S Malemnganba (-53 kg) and S Ronika (+53 kg) bagged gold medals in Phunaba Anishuba event.
In the junior boys' Phunaba Ama competition for under 44 kg category, Manipur's Ch Chinglensana won the gold beating Mijib Miya of Tripura in the final.
Winning gold medals in the Phunaba Ama events for other weight categories are H Rajkanta (-52 kg), Muskan Chingangbam (-56 kg), M Arbin(-60 kg), Leishemba Yengkhomcha (-75 kg), E Sonsun Singh (-75 kg) and Century Heisnam (+80 kg).
In the Phunaba Anisuba events for junior boys, N Chetan Meitei (-44 kg), A Lanchenba Singh (-48 kg), Langonba Oinam (-52 kg), M Thoisana Singh (-56 kg), Rimex Khuraijam (-70 kg), N Wanglensana Meitei (-75 kg), Sh Pritamjit Singh (-80 kg) and Y Rohit Singh (+80 kg) earned Manipur a gold medal apiece.
In the junior girls' Phunaba Ama event for the under 40 kg category, Achom Dhanapati beat Pornika Sharma of Assam to bag a gold medal.
S Velena (-44 kg), Heikham Bidyapati (-48 kg), Y Pinky (-52 kg), Kh Priyangka Chanu (-56 kg), S Priyangka Devi (-60 kg), Gayatri Kangujam (-70 kg), Ingalsana Tharoijam (-75 kg) and Priyangka Nongthombam (+75 kg) also earned gold medals in Phunaba Ama event for other weight categories.
Meanwhile, Chandani Sunar (-44 kg), T roshita Devi (-48 kg), K Thaja Chanu (-52 kg), Y Dayarani Devi (-60 kg), S Rojika Chanu (-65 kg), H Aleea Chanu (-70 kg) and Worrintim Shimray (-75 kg) bagged gold medals for Manipur in the Phunaba Anishuba events for junior girls.
In the senior men's Phunaba Ama event, Telheiba Asem (-46 kg), N Bishorjit (-50 kg), L Shital (-54 kg), Ch Abash (-58 kg), Arubam Biju (-62 kg), P Babi (-66 kg), M Lamnganba (-70 kg) and A Lucky (+80 kg) fetched gold medals as S Manganleiba (-46 kg), Ch Rishikanta (-50 kg), Y Umakanta (-54 kg), Y Deepak (-58 kg), A Bunty (-62 kg), S Kenjit (-70 kg), S Surchandra (-80 kg) and RK Momosana (+80 kg) won gold medals in Phunaba Anishuba event.
Meanwhile, senior women who sealed gold medals in the Phunaba Ama event are L Sophiya (-48 kg), Ng Lakshmi (-64 kg) and L Martina (-68 kg). A Anjana (-44 kg), Neha Yumkhaibam (-52 kg), M Melody (-56 kg), M Kumudini (-60 kg), H Manorama (-64 kg) and A Daina Devi (-72 kg) on the other hand bagged gold medals in the Phunaba Anishuba event.
Victoraj Ngangom (Sub-Junior Boys'), S Malemnganbi Chanu (Sub-Junior Girls'), K Thaja (Junior Girls), Dijen Shagolshem (Junior Boys) and L Sophiya Chanu (Senior Women) also earned Manipur gold medals in the Thang-Haiba event.
Meanwhile, winning gold medals for Manipur in the Thanglon and Khonglon Khutlon event are Ronel Hijam (Sub-Jr Boys), H Yaiphabi (Sub-Jr Girls), Y Rohit (Jr Boys), Chandani Sunar (Jr Girls), Y Khagemba (Senior Men) and K Anupama Chanu (Senior Women).
