Let us carry the struggle forward AMAWOVA observes Intl Women's Day

IMPHAL, Mar 8 : All Manipur Women's Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA) has observed International Women's Day under the theme "Let us carry the struggle forward" at GM Hall.
Speaking as the chief guest of the function, Senior Lecturer of  Kakching Higher Secondary School, Dr Nongmaithem Pramodini said that women of Manipur have been playing an important role in the development of  social and economic status of the State.
Though many rights are entitled to women for their promotion and protection, women, especially in remote places, seem to  be not getting the right to liberty and security due to social traditions and other reasons, she pointed out.
Highlighting the needs of women participation in law and decision making bodies, Pramodini added 'our mindset needs to change for women's empowerment and give girl child the same opportunities and protection as boys.'
AMAWOVA president, Yumkhaibam Kunjarani said that the association has been observing International Women's Day  since 1995 under the theme "Let us carry the struggle forward haiba."
Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur president, Longjam Memchoubi; Department of Chemistry, Manipur University, Prof  N Rajmuhon, Department of Geography, Manipur College, Associate Professor Dr Janatun Begum and Dr Dhanabir Laishram also attended the function as resource persons.
