IMPHAL, Mar 6 : For the first time in the history of Manipur, the incumbent Chief Minister was sworn in as the president of Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Board (LSTB) on Friday and and the Chief Minister attended its first board meeting at Haying Khongban Uphong Makhong.
Chief Minister N Biren was greeted by priests, priestesses and pena singers on arrival at the temple complex while members of LSTB hailed N Biren for opting to enter the temple from the eastern side.
It is reported that Keirao AC MLA L Rameshwor Meetei was also sworn in as the vice president of LSTB.
After the swearing in ceremony, a board meeting was convened in the presence of the Chief Minister and Rajya Sabha MP titular king Leisemba Sanajaoba.
The meeting, after condoling the deceased board members by observing silence for 2 minutes, took several resolutions.
The resolutions include increment of LSBT annual budget; expansion of the temple complex; setting up of another entry point to the temple; establishment of a building for accommodating priests, priestesses, pena singers and others and for hosting workshop/training and incorporating the temple site in the list of tourist destinations, among others.
At the meeting, CM N Biren stated that the State Government will start giving pension to Amaiba Amaibi, Araangfam Famba, pena singers etc above 60 years recognised by the Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Board.
The CM also assured of setting up a separate entry point to the temple shortly.
N Biren, on the other hand, urged the board members to shift their office which is connected with the temple elsewhere.
