IMPHAL, Mar 27: "Highways of Life" director Amar Maibam has yet again achieved another milestone as the 52 minute long documentary won him “Cinema of Resistance Award” at the 14 Signs Film Festival, Kerala held from March 16 to 26 this year.
The Cinema of Resistance Award is given to the best documentary film on subjects like State oppression, human rights, environmental issues, gender and social/cultural identity etc. The award carries a cash prize of Rs  25,000.
It may be noted here that the "Highways of Life" directed and scripted by Amar Maibam has already won the best film award at the 8th Liberation DocFest Bangladesh-2020 held at Dhaka in June.
Significantly, the documentary film was shot over a span of five years from 2014 to 2018 and it had its world premiere on June 18 in the festival at Dhaka.
“Highways of Life” follows a group of truckers as they manoeuvre through the perilous highways, putting their lives at risk, ferrying essential commodities for the people of Manipur amid two intense and violent public movements played out on the highways.
The film is produced by the Films Division of India.
The documentary film had earlier bagged four top awards-Best Non-Feature film, Best Direction, Best Cinematography and Best Editing in the Manipur State Film Awards 2020. Amar's debut documentary film was City of Victims (2009) which revolves around extra-judicial killings in Manipur. His second was 'My Generous Village' which won Special Jury Award and Best Music Award in the Manipur State Film Awards 2019. His fourth, 'NAWA - Spirit of Atey' follows the journey of a 13-year-old boy and it bagged Best Documentary Award in the 2nd Nagaland Film Festival 2019.
