NSU is a gift to the players and sports lovers of Manipur: S Rajen

National Sports University, Manipur is a gift to the talented players and sport lovers of the state and no section or organisation of the state should take credit in this regard.
Education Minister S Rajen Singh said this at the inaugural ceremony of the 1st State Level Open Volleyball Tournament, 2021 at Heirangoithong Volleyball ground in Imphal West district today.
The inaugural function was also attended by Social Welfare Minister, O Henry Singh, Prof S Tiken Singh, president BJP, Manipur Pradesh, Dr Y Tomba Singh, asst prof, JNIMS and Rk Taruni Devi, adhyaksha Imphal West as presidium members.
He said that the state is famous for its rich culture and sports, has produced many talented players and any National or International team for any sports event seems incomplete without Manipuri players, he added.
The Minister reiterated that Mary Kom was inducted in Manipur Police Department at the rank of Additional SP as a mark to encourage and honour her achievements in Boxing and also nominated to Rajya Sabha as Member of Parliament. This is an example of how the state is encouraging and supporting the sport talents in the state. There are a lot more examples of such sport stars of the state, he added.
A floral tribute was paid for the lives that were lost during an unfortunate event that occurred at the same venue on March 14, 1984.
S Rajen appreciated the members of Young Men’s Development Organisation, YMDO, Heirangoithong, for their work to keep the sport alive and organising the tournament.
The tournament is sponsored by Soraisam (O) Sagolsem Kebi who is also managing director, Chumthang Shannapung.
Later Minister Rajen also attended the closing ceremony of the 4th Men’s Village Level Open Volleyball Tournament organized by Kanchikhul Youth’s Library and Sporting, Kanchikhul as Chief Guest.
