IMPHAL, Dec 3: Chairman, Manipur Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd, Sagolsem Achouba Singh has asserted that the handloom and handicraft products of Manipur has claimed its lofty place in different countries of the world and as such we ought to have pride over them as Manipuris.
The above statement was made at the launching event of handloom garments and e-catalogue by Manipur Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd held at Classic Grande, Chingmeirong.
Addressing the gathering, S Achouba stated that just as people nowadays can buy items of their choice from any online store, locally crafted handloom and handicraft products are conveniently available at panthoibi.com for people's browsing and purchasing pleasure along with delivery of the selected products.
He further stated that efforts were being made to supply handloom and handicraft products to Manipuri emporiums outside the State including one in Mandalay, Myanmar as well as gauge the public's taste in such items.
  It may be noted that this corporation was established in 2017 along with the Panthoibi brand with the introduction of the delivery scheme in selling products.
The website www.panthoibi.com went online during 2018-2019 and the journey towards the creation of a local brand commenced. The corporation also opened a uniform showroom on April 6, 2011.
Dealing with the obstacles posed by the pandemic, the corporation resorted to delivering yarns for weaving to the weavers in several constituencies in order to ensure that they maintain a steady income stream. Further, sewing machines, electric spinning wheels etc to underprivileged individuals.
He appealed to the people to use their products as a show of support to these weavers.
Referring to the diligent staff of the corporation, he stated that efforts were being made to regularise their jobs and implement 6th pay as soon as possible.
Assistant Director,  Ministry of Textile Development Commissioner Handicrafts, Govt of India, Jageshwori expressed her appreciation for launching an e-catalogue stating that artisans and weavers would not reap a lot of benefit if the availability of their products were limited to the local markets. However, with the launch of this e-catalogue their products are available internationally, she said.
   Managing Director, MHHDC Ltd, E Jiten Singh informed that this is the third catalogue being launched by the corporation. He added that MHHDC has managed to provide employment and a source of livelihood to weavers, artisans and others involved in allied sectors.
