The Manipur Pony and Polo Players' Welfare Association (MPPPWA) has lauded the steps taken up by Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association (MHRPA) to prepare a polo ground over 30 acres of land at Lamphelpat .
MPPPWA, in a press release expressed concern over the sad status of the Polo which is a game indigenous to the State and the dwindling number of polo grounds in the State each passing day.
However, the initiative of MHRPA to develop and prepare a pologround at Lamphelpat is commendable and very time, MPPPWA noted and expressed that the association will extend all possible help in developing a world class pologround at the site.
It also expressed regret that Ponies, which are an integral part of the game of polo, have been continuously deprived of their grazing and playing grounds with the ever increasing demand of land for construction of houses, schools, hospitals, factories and other facilities, it said.
Further the number of ponies are declining rapidly due to lack of proper grazing ground, fatality due to diseases, poisoning due to consumption of waste products, vehicular accidents and others, it said while praising MHRPA for the proposed grazing facility for ponies at the Lamphelpat ground.
MPPPWA also drew the attention of all concerned to implement The Manipur Pony Conservation and Development Policy 2016 effectively to preserve pony and the game of polo.
