IMPHAL, Dec 21: The first annual conference of Society of Psychiatric Nurses Manipur 'SPNMCON-2021' was held at RIMS Jubilee Hall on December 20.
The conference was organised by the Society of Psychiatric Nurses Manipur (SPNM) in association with the Department of Psychiatry, RIMS and Share & Care Foundation Wangkhei.
Speaking as the chief guest of the occasion, Vice Chancellor of Manipur University, Professor N Lokendra stressed on the need of establishing a separate hospital specialized in psychiatric treatments in the State as mental well being is the need of the hour.
Further he lauded all those who have come forth to pursue mental health nursing acknowledging the need to address mental health issues in the State.
Expressing concern over the reluctance of seeking help in connection with psychiatric issues in the State, he sought the attention of all authorities concerned to regulate special policies in hospitals in order to tackle the issue.
Attending as the guest of honour, Head of Department of Psychiatry, RIMS, Dr RK Lenin stated the department is extending the best possible means for effective psychiatric treatments and will continue to do so in future as well.
He further emphasized that the people of the State need mental health support owing to varied circumstances and due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
President of the Society of Psychiatric Nurses Manipur, Kh Ratna said that the conference has been organised with an aim to bring a healthy mental well being of the people thereby addressing the numerous mental health issues in the State.
She continued that the society will continue to work focusing on mental health nursing.
The conference was also attended by Health Consultant of AIIMS, New Delhi, Dr Sandhya Gupta and RIMS Director, Dr A Santa among others.
