Interactive programme on “Legal Services in 2020-21: Review and Way Forward” held

IMPHAL, Dec 21: Justice Kh Nobin, High Court of Manipur, who is also Executive Chairman of Manipur State Legal Services Authority, has stated that most of the issues in the State arises due to the public's lack of knowledge about the laws and Constitution of India.
He made the above statement during an interactive programme on the theme “Legal Services in 2020-21: Review and Way Forward” which was held today at the Conference Hall, ADR Building, Lamphel Court Complex, Lamphelpat.
He stated that the huge number of cases pending before the court is due to the increasing numbers of cases and lack of required manpower, infrastructure and judges in different courts all over the country. With regards to the State of Manipur, he added that there are a number of vacant posts of judges in various subordinate courts and some of the judges take office as an in-charge of the vacant posts.
Kh Nobin also mentioned that there are more than 60 pending cases of CBI and NIA before the court in the State as there is no dedicated court of NIA and CBI. Adding to this, the cases are heard by the Sessions Judges due to which, the cases are still pending before the court, he continued.
He expressed hope that if 80 percent of the population gets a proper knowledge of the law then most of the State issues may be solved amicably within a week's time. He further stated that legal awareness camps were held from time to time in different parts of the State to spread legal awareness about basic rights under different laws implemented in the country but people fail to attend such camps in large numbers.
He also deliberated on various topics ranging from inputs and suggestions as a way forward for strengthening legal services in Manipur and overall judicial administration and also shared how the media fraternity can help in building up a robust judicial administration in Manipur as well as spreading awareness of the laws, correct court proceedings and legal services activities.
An interactive session followed afterwards, where senior editors and journalists also shared their views on how to improve the present legal system in Manipur. It was also emphasized during the session that the legal service activities plays a prominent role in ensuring justice is ensured for all and is accessible for all.
