Legal awareness programme conducted

As part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahaotsav, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Chandel under the aegis of Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) on Saturday organised an one day legal awareness programme on "The Negative effects of Voter Negligence or Nonvoting" at Kanankhu Village Community Hall, Chandel district.
Speaking on the occasion as resource person, Kh Jacky Lucy Lamkang, Advocate, highlighted the voting system in a democratic country, said a release issued by DLSA Chandel.
She also spoke on ethical and informed voting, responsibility of voters and demerits of negligence and nonvoting.
Village Authorities, PLVs, CSOs, students and youths of local clubs participated in the programme.
Moreover, DLSA Thoubal under the aegis of MASLSA also organised an Online Legal Awareness Programme/Webinar on “Illegal Adoption in the context of Manipur” through Jitsi Meet video conferencing platform.
M Demona Devi, PLV; Binny Ngangom, Chairperson, DLSA, Thoubal and M Sanahal Singh, OA, DLSA, TBL spoke on the occasion, said a release issued by DLSA Thoubal.
In her keynote speech, Binny Ngangom highlighted the importance and role of PLV as the frontline workers in reporting and fighting the issue of illegal adoption during the pandemic due to increasing instances of child trafficking through illegal adoption of thousands of children orphaned by COVID-19.
Th Rajkishore Singh, Advocate, Chairperson, CWC, Imphal West explained the legal ways of child adoption in India; Hindu Adoption & Maintenance Act, Guardian and Wards Act, Juvenile Justice Care & Protection Act; where to apply for adoption and functions of agencies such as SAA, CARA, etc for child adoption.
He also elaborated on how to surrender an unwanted children by parents, victims of rape, sexual assault, etc.
The event was participated by PLVs and Panel Lawyers of DLSA, Thoubal.
