Two day capacity building training programme on ‘Packaging of Foods & Handicraft products of Manipur’ commences

Textiles, Commerce and Industries Minister Thongam Biswajit Singh today inaugurated two day long Capacity Building Training Programme on ‘Packaging of Foods & Handicraft products of Manipur’ at the Food Processing Training Hall, District Industries Centre, Porompat, Imphal East.
Addressing the gathering Th Biswajit stated that packaging is a very important part of a product to attract the buyers and enhances the aesthetic value of the product which is  to be sold.
Maintaining that packaging should be eco-friendly, innovative and affordable, the Minister said, 'Once railway reaches Imphal transportation issues will be minimized and transportation charge will be cut off. As we are in international Border we should take opportunity of Act East Policy'.
He informed that a mega food park is coming up in the State and the Government is trying to set cold storage facility at every district.
The Industrial Estate is functioning very smoothly in the State by providing workshed to the entrepreneurs, he added.
Further the Minister stressed on the need to encourage entrepreneurs inorder to solve unemployment problem in the State.
He also maintained that every one has a significant role to play for a self reliant State and urged all to follow the principle of 'Simplicity' which is the best policy.
He also encouraged the trainer to use the knowledge they have gained from the training and become a master trainer and highlighted the importance of MEETAC in preserving the dying arts and crafts of the State and urged the artisans to collaborate with MEETAC.
Speaking on the occasion, Secretary of Textiles, Commerce & Industries Michael Achom, IRS stated that packaging is an important part of a product and trainee should take benefits of the training.
The training programme is being conducted by Indian Institute of packaging, Kolkata Centre and organized by Department of Textiles, Commerce & Industry with support from the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India.
The inaugural session of the training was attended by Director, Trade Commerce & Industries, Yumnam Robita, IAS, Deputy Director & Branch Head Indian Institute of Packaging, Kolkatta Centre Bidhan Das among others.
during the technical session, Bidhan Das deliberated on the topic 'Packaging of Foods & Handicraft product of Manipur' and presented live demonstration and screening of video on the topic.
More than 50 trainees are participating in the said training.
