Remembering the two historic movements waged by brave mothers of Manipur against the British, 82nd Nupi Lan Memorial Day was observed in Tripura and Pune on Sunday.
TRIPURA
Manipuri Literary and Cultural Forum Tripura in association with All Manipur United Clubs' Organization (AMUCO) observed 82nd Nupi Lan Memorial Day at Gitanjali Auditorium in Agartala.
It was attended by Sushanta Choudhury, Culture Minister, Government of Tripura; Tripura University vice chancellor, Professor Ganga Prasad Prosein; Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur president, Longjam Memchoubi; All Manipur Women's Voluntary Association president, Yumkhaibam Kunjarani; AMUCO general secretary, Dr Norendro Thokchom; and MLCF, Tripura president, N Bir Singh as presidium members.
Observation Committee convenor, Khoisnam Birola presided over the event.
During the programme, floral tributes were paid and two minute silence was observed to honour the brave mothers of Manipur. A souvenir called 'Takhel lei Nachom" was also released.
Later, Khumanthem Anima, Governor Gold Medallist of Manipur University in MA (Manipuri dance) grade-1 was felicitated.
The event was marked by cultural performances from various renowned artists of Manipur and Tripura including Ningombam Ebetombi, Bidyalaxmi and Dr Norendro.
PUNE
82nd Nupi Lan Memorial Day was also observed at Pune by the Association of Manipuri Diaspora (AMAND), Pune.
Soubam Subhachandra Singh, vice president of AMAND welcomed the members who took part in the function physically and through online platform 'Zoom', said a release issued by AMAND Pune.
Er N Giridhar Singh, president AMAND and other senior members of AMAND shared their views and emphasized on unison and the need to remember the great uprising of Manipuri women against the discriminatory and unjust British policies which set new roads for social and administrative reforms in Manipur.
Irom Sarat Singh, treasurer AMAND, proposed the vote of thanks.
Later, the participants also paid floral tribute to the Nupi Lan Memorial statue.
It may be mentioned that AMAND Pune is a non-profit, non-government community organization founded by like-minded working/retired professionals from Manipur residing in and around Pune.
AMAND Pune has been working towards improvement of the social life of Manipuris residing in and around Pune in particular and citizens of India in general, irrespective of their castes, creeds, communities and religions by fair and amicable means at all times.
