Drivers urge
IMPHAL, Nov 8: Drivers engaged in rice transportation for Food Corporation of India (FCI) have asked members of a body called "Manipur Driver Association '' to refrain from entering FCI godowns in Manipur.
Speaking to media persons in the wake of prolonged lining up of unloaded trucks at FCI Sawomgbung gate, aggrieved drivers contended that they have been rendered helpless owing to unloading of the rice at the food storage depot of FCI, Sawomgbung due to some "baseless allegations levelled" against the FCI officials by some members of the aforementioned association on November 3.
On being reached out to the said association to ensure unloading of the rice, they were not taken seriously and had told them to do whatever they like-either unload or remain loaded, the drivers informed.
They later contacted the general secretary of the All Manipur Road Transport, Driver and Motor Workers Union- Maimom Anil and solved the issue, the drivers said.
With the All Manipur Road Transport, Driver and Motor Workers Union intervention, the communication gap was filled and the drivers and the FCI officials could come on the same page, the drivers said. As the matter has been resolved, they will start their normal unloading process at Sawombung godown, they said while extending gratitude to the All Manipur Road Transport, Driver and Motor Workers Union. They further informed that they have unanimously resolved to refrain members of the "Manipur Driver Association" who seeded the issue from entering FCI godown premises.
