Governor takes note of role of art and culture

IMPHAL, Nov 3 : Governor La Ganesan has called for preserving art & culture, saying that the country will remain alive as long as culture and ethos prevail in the country.
The Governor was speaking at the inaugural function of the “Kansa Vadha”, a Manipuri Dance Drama produced by the Harimati Dance and Music Centre (HDMC), Porompat at Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy (JNMDA), Imphal this evening.
The Governor stated that culture is part and parcel of India and described the country as the land of culture where culture has been its speciality.
“The Indian music, dramas and art forms are the parts of Indian culture unlike in western countries where music and drama have been performed just for hobby and entertainment”, he added.
While speaking about the State, La Ganesan asserted that Manipur has been best known throughout the world for her rich forms of dance, arts and culture besides sports.
He also lauded the artistes from Manipur for making immense contribution in sustaining art and culture in the State as well as in the country.
He also asked the artistes, gurus and all those associated with HDMC and in Manipur to promote the Manipuri art and culture to enrich Indian culture.
Extending Diwali message to the public, the Governor asked the youths to explore and ponder on the intrinsic values of the festival that include the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness rather than just organizing it for the purpose of entertainment and firing crackers.
He further observed that forces against the National interest and evil doers must be considered as evil forces at the present time and must be eliminated.
Art & Culture Director Ngangom Uttam while speaking as the guest of honor conveyed that the Manipur Government has communicated/approached Prime Minister Narendra Modi for setting up an institution for Manipuri dance at Gurgaon.
He went on to exude confidence that the same plan will materialize in the near future.
The function was presided by HDMC president N Manishyam.
