IMPHAL, Nov 28 : The Ethno-Heritage Council (HERICOUN) organised an interactive discourse today on the topic "Movement for Updating Agenda Manipur" at State Guest House, Sanjenthong.
The programme was moderated by veteran journalist Leihaothabam Sharatchandra and attended by Dr RK Nimai, retired IAS; Pradip Phanjoubam, Editor Imphal Review of Arts and Politics; Dr Chinglen Meisnam, Assistant Professor MU; Dr Arambam Noni, Assistant Professor, DM College of Arts and Dr Homen Thangjam, Assistant Professor Indira Gandhi National Tribal University as resource persons.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Arambam Noni remarked that CSOs need to bring important issues that can build our society to the forefront instead of urging political leaders to practice issue-based politics.
He also slammed the practice of identity politics and cited it as one of the causes for the degradation of the environment, natural resources etc.
He exhorted for the need of a fraternal spirit in the resource sharing pattern of India and Manipur, stating that without that it would be impossible to form a wholesome agenda for the State. Hence, there is an urgent need to redefine election parameters, he continued.
He also stressed on the importance of bringing Education into the public sector.
At the end of the interactive discourse, the participants of the discourse put forth six recommendations. Some of the recommendations include to ensure that the election is a free and fair process, politicians and political parties must update their agendas and to form a Working Committee on Updating Agenda Manipur among others.
It may be noted that the Working Committee has been formed and comprises 15 members which have already been selected.
