Student unions appeal

IMPHAL, Nov 18: Student unions of the State have expressed dissatisfaction regarding the appointment of a Dr T Bhaveswar as the new Vice Chancellor for Manipur Technical University by the Governor.
In a joint statement issued by Apunba Ireipakki Maheiroi Sinpanglup (AIMS), All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU), Democratic Students' Alliances of Manipur (DESAM), Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA), Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) and Students' Union of Kangleipak (SUK) said the newly appointed VC does not fulfilled the criteria set by UGC and appointment such an under qualified individual as VC is very unfortunate.
The newly appointed VC who is currently the Deputy Director at Controller of Technical Education Office was also appointed as principal in-charge of Government Polytechnic, Takyelpat on February 21, 2016 but the order was cancelled by the High Court as he does not fulfilled the criteria set by AICTE, added the statement.
The student bodies sought the attention of the Chief Minister and the Education Minister to look into the matter and review the order issued in connection to his appointment.
