CJM rejects bail application

IMPHAL, Oct 7 : Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal East has rejected the bail application filed by murder accused Thongginthang Baite, Rifleman of 7th Manipur Rifle and remanded him to judicial custody till October 20.
He was arrested for allegedly shooting a fellow Rifleman A Bimolchandra Sharma on October 1 with a service rifle.
Accused Thongginthang Baite (40) s/o (L) Jilkhosei Baite of Litan Sareikhong was produced before the Court after completing 5 days police remand by a team from Porompat Police Station with a prayer for judicial custody remand.
The defence counsel of the accused, on the other hand, filed a remand objection with prayer for bail.
The IO submitted that the accused Rifleman Thongginthang Baite admitted to the charge levelled against him.
The accused disclosed that on October 1 morning at around 6 while he was sleeping at the barrack, the deceased Rifleman A Bimolchand came back from night pass with a litre of local liquor and woke him up, said the IO.
As per the accused disclosure, the two entered into a heated argument after drinking the liquor during which he (the accused) accidentally pulled the trigger and killed the fellow Rifleman, the IO claimed.
Saying that the investigation of the case is in its initial stage and more witnesses are yet to be examined, the IO prayed for judicial custody remand of the accused for proper investigation.
The Court on perusal of the case record and after hearing both parties remanded the Rifleman to judicial custody till October 20.
