IMPHAL, Oct 6
The United Committee Manipur (UCM) offered tributes to the martyrs of the Great June Uprising at Kekrupat memorial complex on the occasion of the last day of Langban tarpan, today.
At the site, UCM president Konthoujam Joychandra expressed desire to make the adolescents of the State aware about the movement that led to the deletion of the words 'without territorial limit' from the ceasefire agreement signed between NSCN (IM) and Government of India on July 27, 2001.
On the fencing project at a controversial site along the Indo-Myanmar border, the UCM president stated that the work, be it security or border fencing, should not be resumed until a solution is brought on the border issue.
He said that the Government of India and State Government should hold responsibility for any eventuality if the work resumes.
As per the BRTF, the fencing work taken up at the controversial site is for security purposes to check influx of migrants and arms and drugs trafficking, Joychandra added.
He then said that the UCM will investigate to ascertain the authenticity of the words from BRTF.
