Poppy destroyed
IMPHAL, Oct 25 : A joint team of Manipur Police, IRB, NAB, officials from Forest & Horticulture Department and Assam Rifles destroyed about 50 acres of poppy cultivation at K Hengjang Hill range today.
According to a report received from the Police, more than 1000 acres in several hill ranges were found cultivating poppy but only about 20 acres were in the advanced stage while more than half of the area had just been sown.
Small poppy plants were found in the remaining area which were uprooted as they were too small to be cut down.
Wide scale use of the chemical was evident as several bags of Diammonium Phosphate, Nitrogen and Phosphate fertilizers and salt were found in the area which were destroyed by the joint team at the spot after collecting samples.A case has also been registered at Maphou Dam PS. The team assured that they will visit the area again to destroy the remaining poppy plants.
