Kwak Tanba

IMPHAL, Oct 15 : Uttra Shanglen Sana Konung observed 'Kwak Tanba' ceremony following all traditional methods with Angom Ningthou leading the rituals.
Speaking to the media, leader of Uttra Shanglen Prof Ng Kangjiya stated that the Kwak Tanba ceremony was held for the peace and prosperity of Manipur and for the wellbeing of the king.
He said that the rituals of releasing a Nongoubi (a variety of bird) was practised since the time of Nongda Lairen Pakhangba.
As Nongoubi became rare over the period of time, the ritual is performed by releasing a crow instead since the time of King Khagemba.
The Sana Konung has been observing the ceremony on the '10th of Mera' every year for the prosperity of the State , he added.
