Senapati, Sep 30 : The demand of the All Tribal Students’ Union Manipur (ATSUM) to halt the recruit-ment process of 750 posts including 506 posts of Primary Teachers in the six Autonomous District Coun-cils is picking up pace in the hill districts of Manipur.
The Naga Students’ Union Chandel (NSUC) repor- tedly sealed the office of ADC Chandel for an indefinite period of time on September 29 while ADC and Employment Exchange offices in Churachandpur, Kangpokpi (Sadar Hills) and Ukhrul districts have been sealed by the federating units of ATSUM.
Placard that reads “Halt Recruitment in ADCs! We demand ADC election and inclusion of local language as essential criteria for recruitment of primary tea- chers under ADCs” was put up in Churachandpur district.
A press communique issued by ATSUM on Tues- day urged the  Government to halt the ongoing recruitment process of 750 posts in the six Autonomous District Councils in Manipur.
The State Government by carrying out recruitment process in the absence of a popularly elected body demonstrates its ''desperate' attempt to degrade the Autonomous District Councils, claimed ATSUM.
ATSUM further stated that the State Government should immediately halt the recruitment process until ADC election is conducted and local language is made an essential criteria for the recruitment of primary teachers.
The press communique issued by Khaiminlen Doungel, information & publicity secretary of  ATSUM stated that a representation was submitted to the State Government on July 10, 2020 to make mother tongue/local languages as an essential criteria for recruitment of primary teachers in all Autonomous District Councils of Manipur.
The representation of ATSUM to adhere to Constitutional provision, however, is being sidelined by the Secretariat of Hills Department, Government of Manipur, he claimed.
As per report received from M Pradip Singh,  SP Senapati, security personnel have been deployed at ADC office situated at District Council, Senapati following a request from the CEO of ADC, Senapati.
No untoward incident has been reported till the time of filing of this report.
