International Translation Day held

IMPHAL, Sep 30: International Translation Day was celebrated at Manipur Press Club organised by Sahitya Thoupang Lup today.
During the event, Nongthombam Kunjamohan Translation Award was presented to Aribam Kumar Sharma.
The award carried a cash prize along with a shawl and citation. A poetry reading session was also held and Amarjit Singh spoke on the topic, 'Translation and Indigenous Language'
Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, Vice Chancellor of DM University, Professor Nongmaithem Rajmuhon emphasized on the importance of translation which have an important role not only in literature but other aspects as well.
The translation work needs to be enhanced as it helps in bridging the communication gap among different countries of the world and to understand the different languages.
Sahitya Akademi Awardee, Saratchand Thiyam also graced the occasion as the president.
