Fraud held with fake appointment letter
IMPHAL, Jan 24: A 24-year-old man who tried to join the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Manipur using a fake appointment letter and two of his associates have been arrested by Lamphel police.
The 24-year-old identified as Rajkumar Arvind Singh (of Ayangpalli Road, Wangkhei Thangjam Leikai) had approached the NIT Manipur office with the forged appointment letter to join the institute as “Superintendent” on January 21.
The arrests came after the Registrar-in-charge of the institute, Professor K Manglem Singh filed a complaint with the Lamphel Police Station the same day (January 21).
According to the complaint, the appointment letter had a forged signature and seal of the Director of NIT Manipur and Arvind had allegedly revealed that similar appointment letters have also been issued to other people in exchange of monetary benefits, said police.
Further, interrogation of the accused (Arvind) yielded names of some other persons involved and main accused Lalmohan Pheiroijam.
Based on his disclosure, two women involved in the fraud case identified as Karam Indubala Devi, (56) of Soibam Leikai, Imphal East and L Sanatombi Devi (55) of Yaiskul Police Lane, Imphal West have also been arrested and further efforts are on to nab the main accused Lalmohan Pheiroijam and his associates, said the police.
