IMPHAL, Jan 24 : In view of the failure to implement the UGC policy in Manipur, Federation of Government College Teachers' Associations (FEGOCTA) is set to resume agitation if the State Government fails to implement the policy by January 27.
The UGC policy revises pay, prescribes qualifications for recruitment, promotion and duties of teachers in the colleges and universities, FEGOCTA highlighted.
The National policy of UGC was approved by the Union Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi three years ago and the failure to implement the same in Manipur is clear neglect of higher education, said FEGOCTA in a statement.
It is against the spirit of Prime Minister's vision of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas and Sabka Vishwas', FEGOCTA said while appealing to the Government to once again issue the orders of 7th UGC Pay and Regulations, 2018 by January 27, 2021.
The decision to resume agitations was reaffirmed by FEGOCTA during a meeting held yesterday, it said while adding that it is a serious issue and matter of shame that the policy which had also been approved by the State Cabinet under the Chief Minister on August 6, 2020 is still not implemented by the Higher Education Department.
The college teachers are even deprived of complete salary for many years due to denial of SCA and TA, said FEGOCTA which went on to say that such things have never happened in the history of Manipur and in other parts of India.
