ACF, Ukhrul highlights objectives of CM's Green Mission Manipur

Ukhrul, Jan 23: M Wungrin Lansing ACF, Ukhrul while speaking at a one-day awareness campaign on Chief Minister's Green Manipur Mission at Halang village expressed that this ambitious programme is to replenish the lost forest as well as to bring sustainable living for the hill people of the State.
Assistant Conservator Forest (ACF), Ukhrul M Wungrin also highlighted the main objective of the green mission during the programme.
He said that the CM's Green Mission Manipur aims at preventing uncontrolled deforestation and providing the hill people an alternative source of livelihood.
Wungrin went on to mention that CM N Biren Singh launched this ambitious scheme in 2019 to restore and regenerate the lost forest and to bring sustainable living by taking up plantation activities in our forest land.
It is a pilot project and the target project for the current year for Ukhrul district is 40 hectares and will expand gradually. Implementation of Chief Minister Green Mission Scheme was delayed due to Covid - 19 crisis, he added.
Wungrin also enlightened the villagers about the working mechanism of the Green Mission.
He said that the selected villages can take up agroforestry, Horti-forestry etc in their land and are free to choose their desirable plants or crops for plantation.
A similar programme was also held at two different villages -Talui, Ngahui in Ukhrul district.
Headmen, VAs women leaders and youth from Halang Village participated in the daylong awareness drive organized by Ukhrul Forest Division.
