IMPHAL, Jan 21: Four villages in Tamenglong district have submitted a representation to Power Minister Th Biswajit to compensate landowners affected by the 132KV S/C Rengpang-Tamenglong Transmission Line Project.
In the representation, the villages authorities of Namkaolong village, Sangrungpang, Kahulong and Chaengdai said the 132KV S/C Rengpang-Tamenglong Transmission Line Project was taken up under the NERPSIP (North Eastern Region Power System Improvement Project) by the Powergrid on behalf of MSPCL (Manipur State Power Company Limited).
The power transmission line passes through Rengpang, Khongsang, Namkaolong, Salungpang (Sangrungpang), Chaengdai, Kahulong and Chiuluan villages.
Even though the Deputy Commissioner of Tamenglong district has submitted the compensation assessment report to Powergrid, the affected landowners have not been compensated till today. Nearly 50 percent of the construction work has been completed.
As the Powergrid has not taken up any initiative to compensate the landowners for their land and damages done to standing crops, trees and other structures, the construction work of the transmission line was banned from January 4 until compensation is paid, said the village authorities seeking the attention of the Power Minister for his intervention.
