Perspective of Manipuri Culture

IMPHAL, Jan 21 : A three day workshop on "Perspectives on Manipuri Culture" (with special focus on Manipur dance) commenced today at the Manipur University (MU)
It was organised by the department of Dance and Music, MU under the aegis of UGC 's Scheme for Trans-disciplinary Research for India's Developing Economy (STRIDE), New Delhi.
The workshop has been organised with the aim to promote innovative culture for trans disciplinary, National and international collaborative research culture especially in universities and colleges, said MU project co-ordinator P Lilabati Devi.
She further said that the workshop also aims at inculcating young aspiring minds in grasping an in depth analysis of the relevance of culture in society, its relation with dance as an art form and the nuances of Manipuri dance and culture from various perspectives.
The workshop will formulate diverse themes and sub-themes such as diaspora relations to further implement the STRIDE objective of promoting and creating action oriented research and high impact research among the motivated faculty from diverse disciplines focusing on issues and problems related to local, regional and National levels, she added.
Lilabati further explained that the main objective of the scheme is to develop research culture and interest among young faculty, scholars and students to pursue careers and undertake high quality research in trans-disciplinary areas that augment and expand their research capacity.
It is meant for the development of researchers and teams via training through competitive selection, to design research, follow research ethics, write research grant proposals, effectively execute the research, publish and patent research findings, Lilabati further said.
The function was attended by VC in charge of MU Amar Yumnam as chief guest, head of department of Dance and Music MU P Gunindro Singh as president and dean of Student Welfare MU Th Ratankumar Singh as guest of honour.
