IMPHAL, Jan 20: All Manipur Contractors Association has appealed the Government to release funds for road construction under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).
Th Samarendra, convenor of All Manipur Contractors Association said this today at a press conference held at Manipur Press Club.
He said that Phase I of the projects under PMGSY has already been completed and Phase II has already started. However the funds meant for the project have not been released timely since the last 2 or 3 years.
Th Samarendra added that earlier the funds used to be directly deposited into the account of Manipur State Rural Road Development Agency (MSRRDA), the parent unit for executing the PMGSY projects, but now this also has been changed with funds going directly to the account of Manipur Government and it is sanctioned accordingly to MSRRDA.
The most recent funds released by the Central Government was Rs 95.50 crore on October 29, 2020 and Rs 129.66485 crores on November 27, 2020, which also has not been released in time by the State Government, alleged Th Samarendra.
He told the media that the contractors are facing difficulty as the funds are not released in time and they are in no condition to continue working on the projects due to lack of funds.
All Manipur Contractors Association urged the Government to release the funds meant for the projects to ease the woes of the contractors and to make sure that the projects are completed on time.
