NEW DELHI, Jan 10
The Times of India headline on the assault on the Capitol by Trump supporters — “Coup Klux Klan : Don Triggers Mob & Rob Bid” — has become a rage on social media. Thousands of tweeple said it was the most apt headline for the insurrection— using words like “awesome, amazing, epic, brilliant, excellent, outstanding, the most dramatic, the truest, clever and chillingly accurate, nailed it”—while others said it was already a leading candidate for the best headline of the year. Some even called it “the best headline ever”.
“Oh India KNOWS how to write a headline,” user Dr Krupali wrote around 11.30pm on Friday. The post had gathered over 72,000 retweets and 3.4 lakh likes by Sunday, 12.30am, IST. Thousands in the US turned ‘Coup Klux Klan’ into a trending hashtag on Saturday. Krupali, who is followed by Barack Obama, also added “timesofindia can you provide all of America with a copy ? You’ll make millions if not more.” Krupali’s suggestion found many takers. Maxine @Games119 spoke of wanting to frame it. “I think this headline wins the internet today!!!” one user wrote. Errol Nazareth wrote, “Contender for Best Headline of 2021. Nicely done, @timesofindia.”
“Oh, that’s perfect. I saw a bunch of Trump supporters on my way home from work today and it was chilling. Made me think of photos of the KKK,” tweeted Amber Hadley who goes by the handle@BiblioAmber. “#CoupKlux-Klan is the best description ever,” affirmed @Alyssa_Day.
Another user, Anmol Maini @anmolm_ tagged TOI and wrote, “TOIIndiaNews is absolutely savage”. Death By Koolaid tweeted: “Mob And Rob Bid…I’m finished.” Sarah J RN wrote: “This is absolutely the best newspaper I’ve seen in 4 long years!!!” Users also responded to the headline with memes and videos. Several users also tagged other media houses. “Damn-...now THAT’S a headline. @nytimes take notes,” tweeted Richard Servello. Some users also recognised TOI’s legacy. “The Times of India is a particularly good newspaper… and they have had a tradition of newspapers for around 160 years now!” wrote a user who goes by the handle@MillenialD. The Times of India was launched 182 years ago, on Nov 3, 1838 in its earlier avatar as The Bombay Times and Journal of Commerce.
