UKHRUL, Sep 23 : National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL)  has undertaken the project of expanding NH-202 from Yaingakpokpi village to Finch Corner in Ukhrul district.
The work will reduce the 35 kms stretch from Yaingangpokpi to Finch Corner to 31 kms.
Supervising Engineer for the project, Vendru said that the single lane road will be expanded to a double lane road 7 metres in width. Hill cutting for the highway expansion has started from Gwaltabi area.
The targeted time set for the completion of work is 24 months as per the sanction order and the work has been alloted to Dhruv Consultancy Services Ltd and M/s Varaha Infra Limited separately with a total cost of about Rs 260.4 crore. He added that the process of land compensation and acquisition is under progress to expedite the work process.
Crops  destroyed : The annual crops of  Hatha village, Ukhrul district have been destroyed by insects locally known as  'lengva'.
The villagers depending on their traditional occupation for a livelihood had cultivated a total of 50 acres this year. The crops were destroyed as a result of the insects boring into the soil and eating the roots of the rice plants.
VS Lungmi, a farmer of Hatha village stated that with their crops destroyed and the COVID-19 global pandemic still going on, the option of finding  alternative methods to earn their livelihood is scarce.
KMS Ashang on behalf of all the villagers urged the Government to provide aid to the villagers.
