IMPHAL, Sep 21: The Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU) has declared that September 21, 2018 was a 'Black Day' not only for MU but for other academic institutions.
Moirangthem Bobby Singh, president of MUSU stated that the day will be observed in remembrance of  the students, teachers and staff  of the University who took part in the agitation to replace the then VC AP Pandey and suffered at the hands of the police forces.
The agitation to dismiss AP Pandey went on for about 85 days when on the night of September 20, Manipur Police launched a midnight raid, stormed the boys' hostel and arrested 89 students and 6 teachers of the University.
The MUSU president recounted that several students and staff were subjected to brutal treatment by the police and declared that the University that night was turned to a war zone.
A torch was lit today to remember the grave incident. Additionally, MUSU hoped that the day will serve as a reminder of the excesses of the State police and asserted that the same kind of incident should not repeat in the future.
