Death toll hits 60, recov

IMPHAL, Sep 21: Whereas the COVID-19 death toll has been rising incessantly in the State, the recovery rate has slowed down thereby contributing to a surge in the number of active cases.
Two more COVID-19 positive persons died at JNIMS during the last 24 hours taking the death toll to 60.
An 82-year old man and a 53-year old woman, both belonging to Imphal West district died at JNIMS yesterday. It is said that they were suffering from co-morbid health conditions.
The 53-year old woman who was brought to JNIMS on September 17 died at around 5 pm yesterday while the man succumbed to the virus at around 11.20 pm, informed a source.
According to a press release issued by Additional Director (Health) and COVID-19 Common Control Room spokesman Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, the recovery rate stands at 75.89 per cent whereas 116 people including 29 personnel of CAPF were tested positive for COVID-19 during the last 24 hours.
Notably, the recovery rate had reached 79.53 per cent on September 18, before it declined steadily.
During the last 24 hours, 116 samples were tested positive at JNIMS, Shija Hospital, Noney, Bishnupur, Churachandpur, Kangpokpi, Imphal East, Little Clinic, Tamenglong, Thoubal, Kakching, Advance Hospital, Christian Hospital, Babina Diagnostics and Raj Medicity.
Of the 87 civilians tested positive, two belong to Imphal West, 39 to Imphal East, two to Churachandpur, one to Senapati, one to Noney, five to Tamenglong, five to Kakching, 22 to Thoubal and seven to Kangpokpi. Out of them, 83 have no significant history of travelling outside the State.
Meanwhile, 71 persons were discharged from JNIMS (8), CCC Lamboi Khongnangkhong (1), CCC Lamding (5), CCC JNV Chandel (3), Jiribam (1) and CAPF (53).
The cumulative figure of COVID-19 positive cases has reached 9010 (general population 7052, Central security personnel 1958) in the State.
It includes 2113 active cases (general population 1822, Central security personnel 291).
Further, 48 people were tested positive for the contagion in Imphal West district today. Out of them, 10 are residents of Mayang Imphal Konchak Mayai Leikai, 10 of Wangoi Longjam Leikai, three of Uripok Sinam Leikai and three of Lamsang Bazar.
Moreover, 23 samples were found infected by the virus after Rapid Antigen Test at Thoubal today.
