Assn demands compensation
IMPHAL, Sep 22
The Hill's Landownership Compensation Demand Association has submitted a memorandum to the Principal Secretary, Government of Manipur to ensure compensation of standing crops, including Horticulture, Forestry & Agriculture items latest by October 31.
The said standing crops stand to be damaged during the land acquisition process for widening the road from Joujantek to Rengpang village. The memorandum was submitted after a general meeting held by the members of the association. The association represents 12 villages under 3 sub divisions.
The Association alleged that a beneficiary list has already been submitted to the authorities concerned in March 2020 regarding the acquisition of land.
In spite of several requests submitted to the authorities, action is yet to be taken. In light of this, the association had to submit the memorandum due to pressures from the villagers, said Gaidimlung Gangmei, president of the association.
The memorandum further stated that the State Government is to arrange the compensation to be received by the beneficiaries latest by October 31, 2020, so as to enable the villagers to celebrate Christmas peacefully. Failing to do so will constrain the villagers of all affected areas staging all sorts of agitation, protests and other serious actions, cautioned the association.
