Notice served

IMPHAL, Sep 11: A private firm has been served show cause notice for extracting night soil from within the jurisdiction of Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) without its consent.
IMC Public Health and Sanitisation Committee chairman Hijam Nutanchandra said that they have reports of M/S SUWO, which has its office at Nongmeibung, extracting night soil from IMC areas.
As such, the private firm has been served a show cause notice returnable within one week, he said.
Extraction of night soil from septic tanks is done by IMC in areas covered by the corporation and other urban local bodies.
If any individual or private firm would like to do the same work, they must seek prior consent from the IMC, Nutanchandra said.
He said that a task force has been constituted at the advice of Chief Minister N Biren to address the problems created by letting loose cattle and horse on roads and other public places.
Representatives of MAHUD, Veterinary & Animal Husbandry, IMC, police, Manipur Horse Riding & Polo Association and Manipur Pony Owners’ Association are members of the task force.  Horses which are let loose on roads would be reined in and housed at Heingang Marjing Polo complex while cows would be accommodated at the Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Department’s temporary shelter, Nutanchandra said.  If the cattle and horses thus held captive are not claimed by their owners within a specific period, punitive action would be initiated under the Cattle Trespass Act, he continued. He also appealed to all the people concerned not let loose cattle and horses on roads and other public places.  If any Government department wants help from IMC in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic, they may contact Assistant Municipal Commissioner Ksh Gyanendro or Sanitary Officer L Rupendra, he said.
