Ibobi takes jibes

IMPHAL, Aug 20: CLP leader and former Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh today said people’s representatives elected for a term of 5 years and hopping from one party to another is simply due to lack of democratic principles.
If they were so brave they could have done it right after winning the election but joining BJP after taking the benefits of being in Congress for 3 long years only shows their power hunger.
He was speaking at the 76th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi organised by Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee today at the Congress Bhavan at BT Road. The function was attended by CLP leader O Ibobi, MPCC president Moirangthem Okendro and CWC member Gaikhangam as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively. Other ex-MLAs, ex-MPs and party workers also attended the function and paid floral tributes to the portrait of the former Prime Minister.
MPCC president Moirangthem Okendro said even though Rajiv Gandhi was short-lived, during his lifetime he had done numerous commendable works. He got recognition not only in Indian politics but also in foreign policies as well.
The beauty of Indian democracy was enhanced by the implementation of the 10th Schedule by former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi but it has been made meaningless by the present BJP Government, he charged.
MLAs hopping from one party to another to gain some benefits has made democracy look very ugly, he added.
