IMPHAL, Jul 29
Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation (MMWO) has appealed to authorities of private and Government run hospitals to ensure treatment of non-COVID patients at their respective institutions.
MMWO in a statement, expressed concern that many lives are likely to be lost not due to COVID-19 but of other ailments.
The 'closure' of private and Government hospitals for treatment of other ailments and emergency cases in wake of detection of COVID-19 positive cases among the health workers will not be an answer to the current situation, it said.
MMWO applauded frontline warriors of the State for their role in combating the disease but denounced the attitude of healthcare professionals which denied treatment to two patients from Thoubal, leading to their deaths.
It is obvious for the doctors and nurses who are fighting the disease upfront to be afraid since there is no known cure for the contagion yet but at the same time it is their moral responsibility to save the lives of other patients, the statement continued.
If doctors started ignoring patients suffering from other ailments or those who require emergency treatments, the situation will only worsen, MMWO continued and appealed to all concerned to ensure admission to private and Government hospitals with necessary screening and measures.
