IMPHAL, Jul 27: Social Awareness Service Organisation (SASO), Imphal and the Manipur Network of Positive People (MNP+) have condemned the alleged discriminatory act of a doctor of the Department of Immunohematology and Blood Transfusion of RIMS, towards one volunteer (42).
The volunteer was allegedly not allowed to donate blood, labelling him as a drug addict when he visited RIMS Blood bank on June 28 for a voluntary blood donation programme conducted as a part of the Statewide camp to commemorate the 163rd anniversary of the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857, said separate statements of SASO and MNP+. After the incident, the volunteer has been suffering from depression, sleeplessness, fearfulness and other mental problems, they said while adding that such an imaginary act by a healthcare provider will create an unhealthy environment.
The act will surely demoralise many drug user communities who seek a positive change and meaningful participation of drug use response in the State, said SASO and MNP+ while drawing the attention of all concerned not to repeat such act and to stop projecting drug users community in a discriminatory manner.
