NH expansion affected appeal
IMPHAL, Jul 26 : The Lamkang Khunou Village NH-39/AH-01 Expansion/Construction Affected Committee has appealed the Chief Minister to look into their grievances against the DC Chandel.
The committee, in a statement, said under the order of Chandel DC a 100-year-old cemetary of the village has been demolished without informing the villagers during the month of May when lockdown was enforced due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The committee considers this act as violation of the customary law of the hills, it said.
The DC along with the SDO, SP Tengnoupal, GR Infra, media, Lamkang Tribe leaders and Lamkang/Bongyang Villages Authority conducted a survey of the area on June 22.
However, when the villagers asked the DC to visit the demolished cemetery he turned down the request, it said.
After seeing his attitude, the villagers feel that they will not get any compensation for the land, structure and the cemetary which have been demolished for the road construction work, it added.
