AMWSRDS demands
IMPHAL, Jul 13
All Manipur Women's Social Reformation and Development Samaj (AMWSRDS) has demanded the State Government to withdraw its decision to open bonded warehouse for storing Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) in the State.
A press release issued by AMWSRDS said that opening a bonded warehouse to store liquor would be akin to adding salt to injury as Manipur is already bearing the brunt of alcohol abuse.
Apart from causing serious health problems, abusing alcohol also impacts users’ behaviour, which can result in accidents and violence, the statement pointed out adding that unchecked selling and consumption of liquor is also one of the factors for the increasing untimely death of youths, which hinder the pace of development.
Further urging the State Government to revoke the notification which invites application for opening a bonded warehouse in Manipur, AMWSRDS cautioned that ignoring the sentiment of the Manipuri public will invite strong agitation.
