HBS award conferred

Heisnam Basantakumar Singh Literature Award, 2020 has been conferred on Dr Chongtham Jamini Devi, eminent writer of Manipur in recognition of her significant contribution for promotion of Manipuri literature in a simple function at Divya Jyoti Ashram, Changangei Uchekon.
Heisnam (o) Sanatombi Devi of Chingmeirong who donated the award in memory of her husband Heisnam Basantakumar Singh, a college lecturer and writer handed over the award comprising of a citation, shawl and a cash reward of Rs 10,000 (ten thousand) to the recipient through the Sahitya Thoupang Lup, a literary organisation based in Imphal.
The award is normally distributed on the World Book Day, April 23 every year since its institution in 2018 under the initiative of the Sahitya Thoupang Lup.
However, this year's official award distribution ceremony was suspended due to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown in the State.
Accordingly, the Sahitya Thoupang Lup made necessary arrangements to invite the award sponsoring family to the residence of the awardee and hand it over to the recipient.
 It may be mentioned that HBS award has been conferred on Keisham Priyokumar Singh, a Sahitya Academy awardee and Dr Nongmaithem Tombi Singh, a renowned critic in the year 2018 and 2019 respectively.
