HC reserves 17 PG seats for Manipur at RIMS

IMPHAL, Jul 10: The High Court of Manipur has reserved 17 vacant seats for PG courses at RIMS (Regional Institute of Medical Sciences) Imphal for State candidates.
The Court was hearing a petition filed by one H Priyanka challenging a notification of RIMS which stated that the counselling to fill the vacant seats will be conducted by the Director General of Health Services, Government of India, meaning the seats would be treated as All India seats.
How the petition was filed
The total seat for PG course at  RIMS is 145. Of the total, 50 percent is reserved as All India seats and the remaining 50 percent is State quota. Every year, the State was given the vacant seats which arise due to non-admission and failure of candidate(s) to join the institute. The number of seats remaining vacant this year is 17. The counselling for admission to PG courses is done for All India seats by the Director General of Health Services, Government of India while the counselling for the vacant seats is done by a committee headed by Secretary Health, Government of Manipur as Chairman.
Authorities concerned of RIMS and JNIMS had notified on July 6 that the counselling of the vacant seats will be held on July 28 at JNIMS auditorium. However, RIMS on July 8 released a contradictory notification stating that the DG of Health Services, Government of India will conduct the counselling for the vacant seats. Subsequently, H Priyanka filed a petition challenging the latest order.
