Disqualification of Robindro suspended

IMPHAL, Jul 10: A Division Bench of the High Court of Manipur has suspended the June 18 order of the Speaker's Tribunal Manipur Legislative Assembly which disqualified Thanga AC MLA Tongbram Robindro till July 20 and served notice on the Speaker.
The division bench comprising Justice Lanusung- kum Jamir and Justice A Bimol passed the order today during the hearing of a writ petition, T Robindro filed challenging his disqualification as a Member of the Legislative Assembly. The Court also fixed July 20 for further hearing.
It may be noted that T Robindro was disqualified under the anti-defection law by the Speaker hours before Rajya Sabha election on June 19 after which T Robindro had filed the petition challenging the disqua- lification order against the Speaker and two others.
During the hearing today, the Court heard the submissions of Senior Advocate N Ibotombi and Senior Advocate M Hemchandra representing the petitioner (T Robindro) and served notice on the respondents. The disqualification order of the dated June 18 shall remain suspended till the next hearing on July 20, the Court ordered.
