Sanitary napkins distributed

IMPHAL, Jun 27: To help adolescent girls maintain a healthy and hygienic lifestyle and in view of the hardships faced by the girls during lockdown in availing sanitary napkins, the said item was distributed free of cost during a programme held today at the office of Voluntary Health Association, Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal.
The event organised by Care Foundation and Accelerate Project under the sponsorship of Pharvani Global Foundation, Pune and Dorai Foundation, Mumbai was attended by Joint Directors of Manipur State AIDS Control Society, Dr Lucy Dudang and Abhiram Mongjam; Deputy Director of National Health Mission, Meena Seram and deputy chief of Accelerate Project, Aditya Singh.
Speaking on the occasion, general secretary of Care Foundation, Thangjam Jotinkumar said, "As per a survey conducted by the staff of the foundation, it was found that adolescent girls are unable to avail sanitary napkins due to restriction in mobility owing to lockdown or financial restraint besides the existing shyness factor owing to social taboo."
To ease the difficulties and encourage the girls towards a hygienic lifestyle, the event was organised, he continued.
