Thoubal, Jun 21: Education Minister Dr Thokchom Radheshyam and his family dedicated two ambulances for the public of Thoubal district, particularly Heirok Assembly Constituency, today.
Speaking to media persons, Dr Thokchom Radheshyam said that the vehicles were bought by him considering the ever-increasing cases of COVID-19 in Manipur and difficulties faced by the populace due to lack of ambulances from the profit he acquired from his oil pump.
The Minister also said that the ambulances will provide emergency service free of cost.
The ambulances were handed over to the volunteers of a quarantine centre opened at Khangarok, Heirok.
Saying that the State Government takes the pandemic very seriously and luckily no casualty or community transmission has been recorded so far in the State, Dr Radheshyam continued that the actual figure of COVID-19 positive cases in the State will be confirmed once the evacuation process ends.
Today, the State has the facility to conduct at least 2,000 tests in a day, he said, assuring that solutions for other inadequacies such as delay in giving results will also be sorted out in a few days.
He also stated that Cabinet Ministers under Chief Minister N Biren discuss daily to find out better ways to tackle COVID crisis in the State.
There is no disturbance in COVID related preventive measures that are taken up by the Government though there was some political disturbance in the State, said the Minister and added that the State Government is closely monitoring the situation in Manipur.
Stating that the incumbent Government is also discussing the challenges that might be thrown to the State in a post-COVID world, Dr Radheshyam lauded all frontline workers who are risking their lives for the welfare of the masses. He also assured to discuss the shortage of facilities in quarantine centres with the Chief Minister.
After the pandemic ends, the ambulances will be given to Heirok CHC and Nongpok Sekmai CHC, the Minister added.
