Famed Shumang Leela, film actor passes away

IMPHAL, Jun 18: Famed Shumang Leela and Manipuri feature film actor Chinglen Thiyam, popularly known for his role as Commando Chinglen, passed away  at 70 today.
He died at around 6 pm at RIMS, Imphal.
He had suffered a stroke on June 2 and had been undergoing treatment at RIMS. He was first treated at Little Clinic Imphal and afterwards admitted at RIMS where he breathed his last. He was a resident of Nambol Khabi, Bisnhupur district.
Chinglen was a versatile actor who had won many awards and accolades as an actor, lyricist and director.
Keishamthong Thoibi, Thawaina Punsigidamakta, Etinphamda Sambal, Khomlang Laman, Hingbagi Mamal and Wari Loidri are some of the plays that saw the actor at his best and won hearts of the Manipuri audience.
He also acted in many Manipuri celluloid and digital films including Meiri and Heinoujom Yumbal Telanga Yahip.
With his demise, the Shumang Leela and film industry have lost a star.
